Błąd jest w tym że skleiłeś kody z jakichś 2 totalnie różnych projektów/tutoriali! Mieszasz JSP ze Springiem, bo raczej dobrze sie nie skończy.
web.xml:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<web-app xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee"
         xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:web="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/web-app_2_5.xsd"
         xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/web-app_2_5.xsd"
         version="2.5">

<servlet>
    <servlet-name>student-recruitment-app</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>org.springframework.web.servlet.DispatcherServlet</servlet-class>
    <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup>
  </servlet>

  <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>student-recruitment-app</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/</url-pattern>
  </servlet-mapping>

</web-app>

Kontroler:

//
@Controller
@RequestMapping("/")
public class MyController{
//
0
